Bulldogs edged 5-4 in final home game

April 28, 2013

Through three innings on Sunday, it appeared the Mississippi State Bulldogs would prevent a sweep in their final home Southeastern Conference softball series of the season.
The Bulldogs had gained a 3-2 lead and pitcher Stephanie Becker had pitched two shutout innings against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Starkville’s home school students have built robots that travel up model space elevators, capture model insects and assemble model airplanes, but on Thursday, for just the second time, they showcased a robot that played real cymbals.

Those three things were readily available on Saturday as in a two-game sweep, the Lady Wolverines advanced forward in the Class 2A playoffs.

Gamecocks defeat Owen, Bulldogs 3-0

Alison Owen had found a groove and was cruising along.
The Mississippi State junior right hander gave up a leadoff single, but retired the next 12 batters she faced.
Then came the fifth inning.
A leadoff single and a two-run home run in the top of the fifth ended her streak and the Bulldogs couldn't recover as they went on to drop a 3-0 decision to South Carolina Saturday afternoon.
