MSU's Alwal motivated by postseason awards

Mississippi State's Martha Alwal won the Gillom Trophy this year, which signifies the best women's college basketball player in the state of Mississippi.
She also received All-Southeastern Conference recognition after her sophomore season.
On Wednesday night at the team's awards banquet, Alwal was honored by the coaching staff as Miss Defense and the Most Valuable Player for the Bulldogs.

Rice entertains, enlightens crowd

Robert Yates

Robert Antoine “RJ” Yates II died March 24, 2013 at Baptist Hospital for Women in Jackson.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at West Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Larzny Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Sessums Community Cemetery.

John Wafer Edwards, Jr., 86, died March 25, 2013 at Starkville Manor Nursing Home in Starkville. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home.  Rev. Phil Fancher and Rev. Hank Anderson will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.

The documentary "One Night in March" has a different look and the public can take a peak at the new product on television.
After catching some of the early action of March Madness on Thursday night, basketball fans can turn over to Mississippi Public Broadcasting at 9 p.m. and watch the documentary. It will be broadcast in full high definition.

Eupora wins over rival Ackerman

EUPORA – It won't take long for Class 2A, Region 5, District 4 rivals Eupora and Ackerman to become familiar with each other on the baseball field this week.
In the first of two meetings this week on Tuesday, the game between the Eagles and Indians was a pitcher’s showcase featuring timely hitting.

MSU chapter members of Active Minds seek to ‘Send Silence Packing’

Mississippi State University's Active Minds chapter held a "Send Silence Packing" event Tuesday, using backpacks as symbols of college suicides and raising awareness of the mental health issues that cause them and the resources available to prevent them.
