Starkville High’s bowling team has been quite busy in the last few weeks.

Including winning the Region 2 championship in Tupelo, the Yellowjackets have played multiple practice games in preparation for the next leg of their journey.

A trip to Flowood is up next for the team to compete in the State Tournament.

Mrs. Mary Barwick Downey, 80, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Starkville with Rev. David Shumaker and Rev. Tom Woodard officiating.

Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery.

MSU women host Alabama

There was a measure of confidence growing within members of the Mississippi State women's basketball team with wins over Ole Miss, Arkansas and Missouri.

Bulldog head coach Vic Schaefer wants his team to start moving back in that direction.

During last Sunday's loss to LSU, Schaefer saw some of his players drop their head and said after the game that can not happen.

EPA to penalize city for sewage overflows

City Public Works Director Doug Devlin informed the Starkville Board of Aldermen Tuesday that the Environmental Protection Agency planned to impose monetary penalties on the city retroactively for sanitary sewer overflows in the public collection system over a five-year period.
