With the spring season right around the corner, women of Starkville are ready to raise a glass and make a toast to warmer weather as the Greater Starkville Development Partnership sponsors its latest unWINE Downtown event.

Brandon Hernandez had two family members at the Starkville Police Department before he joined SPD himself. His brother-in-law, Jonathan Headley, and his wife, Gabrielle Hernandez, are both officers with SPD, but he said that did not mean those two played a role in recruiting him.

Taking on the predominantly men’s world of athletics might be a challenge for any female athletic department employee at a major university. That was especially true for Ann Carr, who spent eight years of her career as an academic adviser for the Mississippi State University football team.

Earlier this month, former Oktibbeha County Deputy David Lewis received a plaque that reminded him of a day that could have been his last.
Business, or at least its study, is apparently booming at Mississippi State University.
The Starkville Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall to discuss final approval of local historic districts’ boundaries before forwarding those districts and their design standards to the Starkville Board of Aldermen.
The Mississippi State men's basketball team had a glimmer of hope heading into last Saturday's home game against Vanderbilt.
The Bulldogs (7-19, 2-12) were in the game late against Alabama last Wednesday, but ended up dropping a 64-56 decision.
MSU played well down the stretch and Bulldog head coach Rick Ray was hoping it was going to carry over when the Bulldogs hosted the Commodores.
Alison Owen has been waiting a long time to get back into the circle.
The Mississippi State redshirt junior has made quite an impact so far in 2013 for the Bulldog softball team.
It was proved to be true for Owen again last weekend and she got attention for it on Monday.
Owen was selected as the Southeastern Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week.

As Title I social worker at Sudduth Elementary School, Ginger Mitchell sees a lot of mothers each day.
Mitchell said a great many mothers had joined Sudduth's Parent-Teacher Organization, and a number of mothers taught or had other jobs at Sudduth. It was rarer, she said, to see fathers — or even grown men in general — and she wanted to change that.
A University Hills Mobile Home Park resident evaded injury Sunday morning after waking up to find her home filled with smoke.
Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said East Oktibbeha County Fire Department was dispatched to the scene at 6:33 a.m. Sunday and found an electric furnace had ignited a fire inside and around the residence.
