Alabama close to NCAA bid

The Alabama Crimson Tide have quietly had a good season in Southeastern Conference play this season.

The Crimson Tide are 9-3 in SEC play and sit alone in second place. They have an overall record of 17-8.

Winners of its last three games. Alabama's Ratings Percentage Index is 59 according to ESPN's Joe Lunardi.

City board to consider list of capital improvement projects

The Starkville Board of Aldermen will consider authorizing a list of recommended capital improvement projects for Fiscal Year 2013 during its 5:30 p.m. meeting today at Starkville City Hall.

Supes support state leaders on school merger

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of supporting the actions of state legislature in regards to a bill proposing consolidation of Starkville City and Oktibbeha County schools during its meeting Monday.

Volunteers win soccer playoff match

The Starkville Academy Volunteers fought windy conditions at the Starkville Sportsplex Monday afternoon, but it did not keep them from moving one step closer to a championship.

Defeating Pillow Academy 4-0 in the quarterfinals, the Volunteers will advance to the semifinals to face Jackson Academy at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Vols showing big-size heart in postseason

Anyone who witnessed last Saturday night's 67-65 victory in three overtimes over Washington School could tell the Vols still had much fight left in them.

SA girls plan to treat Prep very serious

The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have their sights set on winning another trophy after claiming the Class AAA, Division II State championship last Saturday.

With its tradition of playing good basketball at this time of the year, Jackson Prep stands in the way of the Lady Vols at Jackson Academy today. The two teams play in the first round of the Class AAA Tournament at 4 p.m.

SHS girls see season end with loss to New Hope
