Joe Horne Christmas Classic begins today

Over the years, the Joe Horne Christmas Classic in Columbus has blossomed into one of the top tournaments in the area.
That growth is much in part to the work of Columbus High coach Sammy Smith and his staff who started working many months ago to get this year’s tournament ready.

Bulldogs respond to 'a test'

In the first two "big tests" for Mississippi State, they didn't answer the bell like Rick Ray would have liked.
That was not the story Thursday night.
The Bulldogs knocked off the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles 66-53 inside Humphrey Coliseum in front of 5,902 fans.
"I thought this was a really good win for our ball club against a really quality opponent," MSU head coach Rick Ray said.

Collins of Bulldogs says Owls' offense outstanding

When Geoff Collins looks at the film of the Rice offense, he sees a similarity to what he sees on a week-to-week basis.
The Mississippi State defensive coordinator was very complimentarily of the Owls' offense, a Conference USA squad.
"They have Southeastern Conference players," Collins said matter-of-factly after Thursday night's practice.

City narrows CAO search

The search for Starkville’s new chief administrative officer has been narrowed to three finalists, whom the Board of Aldermen named Tuesday night at its recess board meeting.
