Mississippi State has faced some tough competition this season.

Ruth Virginia Nanney Mann, 97, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi. Mrs. Mann had resided at The Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville for the last two years. Before moving to The Carrington, her primary caregiver in Belmont for several years was Mrs. Nell McGee. Mrs. Mann was born in Mantachie, Ms.
Mildred Winfield Bassett passed away on Nov. 9, 2013, at Starkville Manor after a lengthy illness. She was 96 and a lifelong resident ofÂ Starkville.
Dr. Robert G. Anderson of Starkville died November 10, 2013.Â He was born on December 4, 1930 in Denver, Colorado to Carl and Rae Dettelbach Anderson.
He received a BA degree from Northern Colorado University, a Masters Degree from Colorado State College of Education in Greeley and a PhD from the University of Missouri.
America is losing more soldiers to suicide than it is losing to enemy forces in Afghanistan.
Army Chief Warrant Officer Five Randy Jones cited this statistic at Gulf States Manufacturingâ€™s Veteransâ€™ Day program Monday morning. He said military suicides totaled more than one per day, and the best thing Americans could do to reduce this statistic was express appreciation to veterans.

A resident at The Highlands apartment complex died Friday night after an apparent suicide.
Oktibbeha County Sheriffâ€™s Department Commander Brett Watson said officers were dispatched to 74 Lock Lane at 11 p.m. Friday. There, they found the victim, who Oktibbeha County Deputy Coroner Billy Miller identified as 19-year-old Eric Dane Knight, of Bay St. Louis.
The Mississippi Horse Park was recently awarded the Justin Boots Best Footing Award from the Womenâ€™s Professional Rodeo Association.
The Horse Park will receive the award, along with a plaque and an undisclosed cash prize on Dec. 5 in Las Vegas at the WPRA National Finals Rodeo.

Greg Dunaway, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi State University, spoke about a fear when he addressed the Starkville Rotary Club.
Dunaway, who the university named to the position in April after serving as interim dean since 2012, spoke to the club on Monday. The topic, he said, stemmed from a student interview from shortly after he was named to the position.
