Before Friday's night matchup between Starkville and Madison Central, the Jaguars had a few choice words for the Yellowjackets.
Madison Central taunted Starkville by saying "we're about to welcome you to 6A."
The Jackets showed they didn't need a big, drawn-out welcome.
Starkville beat Madison Central 45-42 in a shootout at Yellowjacket Stadium.
Starkville High School has been in its share of big football games over the past few years.
For the last 34 years, Charlie Burton has watched most of them.
Burton has only missed one season of Yellowjacket football since 1979 and has been the true example of what a fan should be.
The only SHS season Burton missed was in 1987 when he had to have surgery.
MABEN – If there was one word that could describe the emotions of the East Webster Wolverines after their loss Friday night, “heartbreak” would probably the first choice.
The Wolverines fell to division rival Bruce 7-3 in what proved to be a hotly contested game between two solid defenses.
ACKERMAN – The Choctaw County Chargers entered Friday’s game on a five-game win streak and after defeating Southeast Lauderdale 45-0, that streak moved to six.
EUPORA – Lamontae Salley scored three touchdowns for Eupora, two receiving and one rushing in the fourth quarter, and the Eagles went on to a 34-12 homecoming victory over Okolona Friday night.
"We played much better," Eupora head coach Junior Graham said. "We blocked and tackled much better than we did last week. We rebounded well from a loss to Bruce."
