Ray sees improvement at MSU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Entering his second year as the Mississippi State head coach, Rick Ray was looking for improvement.
The Bulldog coach had a trying first year in the Southeastern Conference with a young, inexperienced, and banged-up squad.
He finally has a full roster, and has seen a great deal of improvement from the returning guys.

State women learn from last year experience

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Mississippi State women's basketball team experienced some growing pains last year.
Even though there were some tough losses along the way, the Bulldogs experienced a great high when they upset No. 11 Georgia 50-38 in the final home game of the season.
MSU turned up the defensive pressure that night and only allowed the visiting Bulldogs five made baskets in each half.

Florida's Young believes MSU will be better team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State was picked to finish 13th in the Southeastern Conference this season by the media.
Florida center Patric Young isn't buying into that. The senior had a bold statement on the Bulldogs.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Mississippi State was a lot better this year," Young told reporters at SEC media days on Thursday. "They have a lot of good young guys."

The Starkville Yellowjackets have had a history of playing in big football games with much on the line.
Under coach Jamie Mitchell the last two years, the Jackets have made playoff runs that led all of the way to the Class 5A State championship game. They won the title last season.

East Webster sees another challenge in region

The battles keep coming for the East Webster Wolverines.
The Wolverines play in an extremely tough region of Class 2A and tonight they will face another of district opponent in Bruce.
As his team prepares, East Webster coach Doug Wilson is just looking for the trend of playing to the end to continue.

Oktoc Country Store prepares for 43rd year

Margaret Ann Harned Chandler has only been a member of the Oktoc Garden Club for a year, but her memories of the club's fundraiser the Oktoc Country Store — are very vivid.
Chandler was born and raised in Oktoc. She still lives on her family's original plantation, and raised her own family in the community, too.
