Lady Vols hit 30-win mark

COLUMBUS – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers hit the 30-win mark on Tuesday night and it came against their rivals across the Tombigbee River.

Sallie Kate Richardson had 25 points as Starkville Academy defeated Heritage Academy 72-34.

SHS teams win pair of region games

PHILADELPHIA – Blair Schaefer had another scoring effort over 30 points as the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets defeated the Neshoba Central Rockets 57-42 in Class 5A, Region 2 action Tuesday night.

Schaefer tallied 36 points for the Lady Jackets, who improved to 12-6 overall and 4-1 in Class 5A, Region 2.

As Mississippi House members and local educators begin discussions on a possible Oktibbeha County school merger, state senators are also working on similar measures across the state, including an effort to join Clay County educational systems.

Local representatives say this trend of school consolidations is one that will continue into the future.
