Lady Jackets continue to stretch their season

The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets refused to stay down.

After a disappointing loss to New Hope to end the regular season, the Lady Jackets have enjoyed two strong playoff performances, including Saturday's 2-0 home win over Center Hill in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.

SHS boys advance by beating Hernando

It was quite an afternoon for Starkville High School soccer player Taylor Wise on Saturday.

After signing with Hinds Community College earlier in the day, Wise scored a pair of goals to lead the Yellowjackets to a 2-0 victory over Hernando in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Gardner likes performance of Vols

Starkville Academy soccer coach Robert Gardner was looking for a complete match from his squad.
He saw that on Saturday.

The Volunteers were able to do something they had never done in beating Presbyterian Christian School 2-0 at the Starkville Sportplex soccer field.

Gardner was pleased with the way his players worked together to accomplish the desired result.

It has been tough sledding for the Mississippi State men's basketball team since opening up 2-0 in the Southeastern Conference.

The Bulldogs dropped their fourth-straight conference contest Saturday night.

MSU (7-11, 2-4) fell to the No. 7 (Associated Press) Florida Gators (16-2, 6-0) 82-47 inside Humphrey Coliseum.

There hasn’t been much doubt surrounding the Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers this season, and for good reason.

With their record standing at 28-0 after Friday’s road win at Parklane, the Lady Vols have established themselves as one of the toughest teams in the state.

Ackerman girls win on their own court during Challenge

ACKERMAN – There was no such thing as a lazy Saturday for a few of the area’s basketball teams.

Taking part in the Mid-Mississippi Challenge were the Eupora Lady Eagles, the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets, as well as the East Webster Lady Wolverines and host team the Ackerman Lady Indians.

The first game between Ackerman and J.Z. George saw the Lady Indians pick up a decisive 42-19 victory.
