SSD adds facilities to strategic plan discussion

Starkville School District administrators informed stakeholders of the district’s current status and projections for its future at the first of four strategic planning meetings Thursday at Starkville High School, including projections for student enrollment growth that are leading administrators to look at creating a new, additional campus.

2-car collision kills 1, injures 2 others

Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed 23-year-old Deseane K. Robinson, of 2011 Williams Road, Starkville, died after a head-on collision involving two cars on Louisville Street early Friday morning.

Starkville School District leaders said they came away with more questions than answers Friday when they met with State Rep. Toby Barker and other state legislators in Jackson to discuss a bill Barker filed to consolidate SSD and the Oktibbeha County School District.

Gregory named GSDP chief executive officer

The Greater Starkville Development Partnership Board of Trustees named Jennifer Gregory as the organization’s new chief executive officer Thursday.

Gregory, the Partnership’s former chief operating officer and vice president for tourism, assumed the new role immediately.

Jackets come up short in defensive struggle

Shots inside the Beehive were not falling as frequently as the rain was outside for the Starkville Yellowjackets Friday night.

Battling a tough Yazoo City team, the Jackets were not able to overcome the slow pace of the Indians and following a last minute shot the Jackets fell 36-34.

SA girls improve to 28-0 with easy victory on road

MCCOMB – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers met no resistance Friday night in improving their record to 28-0 as they defeated Parklane Academy 61-20.

Starkville Academy jumped out to a 25-3 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Vols held a 35-11 advantage at the half.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Lady Vols outscored their host 26-9.

Thomas starts to find his shot on MSU team

Fred Thomas came to Mississippi State with the reputation of being a shooter.

The freshman struggled early in the season, but he has finally been able to find his shot. 

Thomas was 6-of-12 from the field in Wednesday's 96-70 loss to Arkansas on the road. He made 2-of-5 3-pointers and led the team with 17 points.

Mississippi Delta gets SA's Pellum

Starkville Academy's Drew Pellum can throw a football well and he's also pretty good at kicking a soccer ball.

When it came time to chosing a sport for the next level, Pellum picked baseball and he's taking that talent to Mississippi Delta Community College.

Pellum signed earlier this week and celebrated the moment Friday morning at the SA's media center with family and friends.

Vols' Slaughter, Henderson set to attend MCC

Athletes in the sport of soccer are instructed not to use their hands unless they are a goalkeeper or throw the ball in from out of bounds.

On Friday morning, Starkville Academy soccer players Zach Slaughter and Colby Henderson were encouraged to use their hands.

Slaughter and Henderson took a pen and signed their names to continue their soccer careers at Meridian Community College.
