Lady Titans leave home court as winners

CRAWFORD – Outside the East Oktibbeha gym Tuesday night things were cold and dreary, but on the inside, senior night featured bright smiles and hot-scoring.

The careers of Quanisha Doss, Chansity Evans, Chaurieal Jenkins, Savannah Blair, Jessica Reed and Lydia Stevenson were celebrated and the Lady Titans seniors were sent out with a 78-61 victory over French Camp Academy.

Mrs. Alice Gertrude Overstreet Taylor, 95, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at The Meadows retirement home in Fulton. 

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Oxford with Rev. Ed Woodall officiating. 
Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. 
Visitation will be held 9-11 a.m. at the church prior to the services.

WEST POINT — Mrs. Dicie Harris Fulgham, 87, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Brother Aaron Parker officiating.
Burial will follow in Clarkson Cemetery in Maben.

Mr. Roland Hayes Drungole, 57, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013 at his residence in Oak Park, Ill. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at Pleasant
Hill United Methodist Church in Starkville with Elder Joseph L. Hawkins officiating.
Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Starkville.

State of emergency declared over Miss. ice storm

JACKSON — An ice storm warning was out for much of the Mississippi Delta until 6 p.m. Tuesday as motorists were being warned of continuing icy conditions on roads and bridges — a warning that extended into northeastern counties.

Aldermen to consider hiring parking official

January 15, 2013

The Starkville Board of Aldermen will consider hiring a part-time parking enforcement officer during its 5:30 p.m. recess meeting tonight at City Hall.

Approval of the position would require appropriation of additional funds to supplement Starkville Police Department’s budget. Funding for the temporary position would not exceed $11,000 for the 2013 fiscal year.

National parks director speaking today at MSU

Before Jonathan B. Jarvis became director of the National Park Service, Walter Diehl knew him as a classmate and fraternity brother.

Diehl, now associate dean of Mississippi State University’s College of Arts and Sciences, said he and Jarvis were both biology majors at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., and they were both part of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

Wiseman begins re-election effort, highlights 1st term

West Point candidates vie for Senate seat

Voters across a four-county area will decide Miss. Senate’s District 16 successor during today’s special election.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Two candidates from West Point, Independent Kenny Fowler and Democrat Angela Turner-Lairy, qualified for the special election after former state Sen. Bennie Turner died in November. He was 64.
