East Webster girls defeat Houlka behind Patterson

MATHISTON – The East Webster girls baskeball team beat Houlka Thursday night in impressive fashion.

Wolverine sophomore Quantesha Patterson put on a shooting display in the first half with 29 points, giving East Webster a lead of 38-8 at half.

Board rejects Perkins’ city facility plans

The Starkville Board of Aldermen rejected Ward 6 Alderman Roy A. Perkins’ motion to rescind all action pertaining to certificates of participation for new municipal facilities and launch a June 4, 2013 bond referendum for a $3.5 million police facility at its meeting Tuesday.

We Care Committee to hold holiday food drive

Bulldog basketball numbers limited by injuries

Medicare’s possible rise worries retirees

WASHINGTON — They may not agree on much else, but there’s a change to Medicare that President Barack Obama and Republicans both support: Expand a little-known law so more retirees that the government considers well-off are required to pay higher monthly premiums.

It’s on the short list in the budget talks, raising $20 billion or more over 10 years.

Robinson's double-double keys MSU women's win

Shamia Robinson was not slated to get any minutes Thursday night for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

It was a good thing she did.

Robinson logged a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes to lead the MSU women's basketball beat Jacksonville State 69-54 inside Humphrey Coliseum.

SHS pair to play in Bernard Blackwell Classic

The respect that Starkville High School defensive back Jacoby Smith gained from opponents was especially on display in the Class 5A State championship game on Dec. 1.

As the Pascagoula Panthers were trying to move the football against the Yellowjackets, they wanted to keep going to the passing game.

What Pascagoula didn't want to do was challenge Smith.

The Starkville Board of Aldermen heard allegations of misconduct on city police officers’ part at its meeting Tuesday and passed a resolution to task chief administrative officer Lynn Spruill with coordinating an investigation of these allegations and reporting on the matter at the board’s Jan. 15 meeting.
