CANTON — Mr. Thomas Lowery Gould, 50, Friday Dec. 14, 2012 at his parents's home in Fannin.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Fannin.
Burial will follow 2:30 p.m. at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusk.
Visitation will be held 9-11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Fannin.

McLester Hollingshed

Mr. McLester "Peter" Hollingshed, 58, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at his residence in Starkville.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at First Baptist Longview Church in Starkville with Pastor Larnzy Carpenter officiating.
Burial will follow in the First Baptist Longview Church Cemetery.

Gerry Ammon

December 27, 2012

Mrs. Gerry Ammon, 87, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at her residence in Starkville.

Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville. 
Burial will follow Tuesday in Vicksburg. 
Final arrangements are incomplete.

Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Hamill Fulgham, 81, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville with Rev. George Buell officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home.

Mr. Will Allen Jr., 91, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at his residence in Starkville.  

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sandra Brown officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home.

Pats scatter Jackets: Starkville digs a hole, drops 41-25 decision

The Starkville High Yellowjackets were hoping the post-Christmas part of their schedule would bring a more successful result.

On Wednesday, the team tipped off in its first game of the Travis Outlaw Slam Dunk Christmas Tournament against the Patriots of Midfield, Ala.

Aberdeen, New Hope lose at tournament

It wasn't a good day for the Mississippi high school boys basketball teams at the Travis Outlaw Slam Dunk at the Hump Christmas Tournament.

Not only was host Starkville defeated by Midfield, Ala., in the final game of the day, but New Hope lost a 51-40 decision to Lanett, Ala., in the first game of the day and Aberdeen fell 72-61 to Hamilton, Tenn.

SED finishes fiber optic cable’s 1st phase

Starkville Electric Department General Manager Terry Kemp confirmed Wednesday that SED has finished installing the first phase of its fiber optic cable infrastructure upgrade, setting the stage for public wireless Internet access and other new amenities in Starkville.
