Goals and survey lead SSD agenda

The Starkville School District Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting at noon Tuesday at the Greensboro Center to discuss its annual goals and calendar, take a legislative survey from the Mississippi School Boards Association and approve an agreement between the SSD and CompassLearning, Inc.

Reopening of road entrances to Green Oaks on city agenda

The Starkville Board of Aldermen will consider reopening the western entrances of Douglas McArthur Drive, Redbud Drive and Maple Drive at its meeting 5:30 today in the City Hall courtroom.

The board ordered the entrances from Stark Road to be closed off in 1999 when it was determined there was too high a volume of traffic using them.

County shoots down hospital, lake motions

Though neither business item was listed on Monday’s Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors agenda, board members presented motions regarding both the OCH Regional Medical Center and the Oktibbeha County Lake.

Bulldogs to fix mistakes

The Mississippi State Bulldogs collectively took a sigh of relief over the weekend after escaping Troy, Ala., with a 30-24 football win on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs found out they were ranked 23rd nationally and they look to make corrections to the flaws which were exposed against the Troy Trojans.

SHS picks up division win

Starkville High School volleyball coach Lauren Love had a simple message for her team prior to Monday's afternoon match against Class 5A, Region 2 opponent Canton.

"Let's start from the beginning," Love told the Lady Yellowjackets at courtside before they assumed their positions.

It turned out that there wasn't much time from the beginning until the end of the match.

Mr. Nora Fleming of Winona, 90, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012 at his home.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at Saint Joseph Church of God in West.
Burial will follow in Forrest Hill Cemetery.
Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 at Roberts and Sons Mortuary.
Roberts and Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Rosalyn Rush

September 17, 2012

Roslyn Rush, 46, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 in Atlanta, Ga.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at Century-Hairston Funeral Home in Starkville with Pastor Maggie Little officiating.
Burial will follow at Fox Cemetery in Starkville.
No visitation will be held.
Century-Hairston Funeral Home in Starkville is in charge of arrangements.

William Tucker

Mr. William "Bill" Holder Tucker of Des Moines, Iowa, 49, died, Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Starkville.
Burial will follow at Double Springs Baptist Cemetery in Maben.
Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at St. Paul M.B. Church with Rev. John Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
Visitation will be held noon to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 at West Memorial Funeral Home.
