Officers from both the Mississippi State University and Starkville police departments are literally getting back on the bike.
Following last week’s four-day training period, 10 officers, eight from MSUPD and two from SPD, have been certified for bicycle patrol by the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association.

Though there have been no reports of anyone in Oktibbeha County being infected with the West Nile virus since 2007, there has been an increase in cases statewide in the last month, according to the Mississippi Department of Health.

The Starkville School District Board of Trustees voted at its Tuesday meeting not to rehire its 12 bus monitors, choosing to install security cameras on the buses and giving drivers radio contact with school principals instead.
