County MCT2 results show inconsistencies

The Mississippi Department of Education released data this week showing percentages of students who earned proficient or advanced scores on the Mississippi Curriculum Test, Second Edition (MCT2), revealing growth among the Oktibbeha County School District’s elementary students but less consistent, weaker results among its high school students.

For Labor Day weekend, American consumers in 45 states will likely see the highest fuel prices they’ve ever seen at this time of year. Only motorists in Alaska, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming will be spared from record-high prices at the pump.

Officials: Football routes more than moving MSU fans

Mississippi State University Shuttle Operations Manager Jeanette Bailey says transportation officials are ready for an influx of Bulldog fans this football season and are hopeful more visitors utilize the university’s game-day transportation systems.

The first two games of the football season have taken a toll on the Starkville Yellowjackets physically.

Not only did the Jackets not have their best offensive player, quarterback Gabe Myles, against Madison Central because of a sprained ankle, they lost their best defensive player, David Fair, during the game because of a knee injury.

Vols hope to find offense on road

The Starkville Academy football team is looking to sure up its offense this week against Magnolia Heights.
The Volunteers (1-1) and Chiefs (1-1) meet in Senatobia tonight for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

SA is coming off a 19-6 loss to rival Heritage Academy last week, while Magnolia Heights beat Kirk Academy 49-20 last week.

Ackerman hosts French Camp

The Ackerman Indians host a Class A opponent tonight so the chances of them improving to 3-0 are pretty good.

Not when it comes to hosting cross-county rival French Camp at 7:30 p.m. as far as Ackerman football coach Adam Dillinger is concerned. The visiting Panthers have a 1-1 record.

Kathryn Rose Pendagraph Stich, 66, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 at her home in Starkville.

Graveside funeral services will be held at a later date in Atlanta, Ga.
Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was a retired teacher with Starkville Public Schools.  Teaching and mentoring was her life along with knitting and science fiction.

Sue Cleveland Blackbourn earned her wings on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, in Tulsa, Okla.,  surrounded by her loving family and certainly smiling all the way to the arms of Jesus.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at First United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at First United Methodist Church.

Tomyr Lesean Lawrence, four months, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2012 at Century-Hairston Funeral Home Chapel in Starkville with Rev. Larnzy Carpenter officiating.
Burial will follow at Oktoc Public Cemetery.
There is no visitation scheduled.
