Bryant discusses merit-based pay, economic development

PHILADELPHIA — Republican Gov. Phil Bryant took center stage under the old oaks of surrounding the Founder’s Square Pavilion at the Neshoba County Fair and repeated his call for merit pay for teachers, opposition to expansion of the Medicaid program under the Obama health care reforms, and the need for continued caution in state budgeting and spending.

Starkville residents who live in floodplains will soon have some help with their insurance rates as a result of the city being accepted into the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System.

SA loses softball outing to Central Academy

Starkville Academy entered Thursday afternoon with a lot of confidence and a chance to grab the first win of the season.

The Lady Volunteers came unraveled in the latter innings and fell to Central Academy 12-1 in five innings at Lady Volunteer Field.

The Lady Vikings scored two in the top of the first aided by Sadie Lindsey's infield RBI single.

Love sends Lady Jackets to volleyball event with confidence
