Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department authorities shot and killed a man Monday after he stabbed a deputy multiple times.
OCSD Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett said deputies were dispatched to Cannon Road at 5:47 p.m. after receiving a report of a man standing in the road and brandishing a knife.

The Starkville Board of Aldermen will consider calling for a public hearing on adoption of the 2013 city budget at its meeting tonight.
Chief Administrative Officer Lynn Spruill said the budgeted expenditures of the proposed budget are very similar to that of the 2012 budget.
Gabe Jackson has been at Mississippi State for three years and has used that time wisely to develop his skills as an offensive lineman.
The junior hailing from Liberty comes into the season being selected for the Outland Trophy watch list and the Rotary Lombardi Award watch list. He has also received All-Southeastern Conference second team from numerous sources.

Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Eastern Cemetery in Forest.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home.
Welch Funeral Home in Starkville is in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Katherine Gant Maxwell passed away at home after a very long illness.
Virginia Hall Read, 74, left us to be with our Lord Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, after an extended illness.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson with senior associate pastor Rev. Vicki Landrum officiating.
Burial followed at Louin Cemetery in Louin.
Mr. Mark Jackson, 45, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at his home in Louisville.
Memorial funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at Morgan Chapel Baptist Church near Sturgis with Rev. Randal Jackson, Rev. Gary Jackson and Rev. Gary Roberson officiating.
Burial will be announced at a later date and time.
Laura Perry-Walker, 70, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012 at Sixteen Section M.B. Church with Rev. Lee Brand Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow at Lindsey Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 12:30-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Century-Hairston Funeral Chapel.
