As discussions continue on the future of OCH Regional Medical Center, hospital employees say they continue their day-to-day jobs while thoughts on the uncertain future are always at the back of their minds.

Local DYW Travis earns top-10 spot in Miss. program

Holly Travis, Starkville’s representative at the Mississippi Distinguished Young Woman scholarship program, placed in the event’s top 10 Saturday.

Travis received a self-expression preliminary award Friday based on interviewing skills.
Lauderdale County’s Mackenzie Ross was named the overall winner.

UnWINE organizers prepare for Thursday

A night of wine and shopping is on the horizon for the women of the Starkville community as the third unWINE Downtown event begins 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership.
Jennifer Gregory, GSDP Vice President for Tourism, said interest for the event has gained momentum since its initial launch.

There's excitement among MSU fans and coach Dan Mullen knows his team is close to taking the next step toward winning a championship.

The main message Mississippi State's football contingent gave reporters at Southeastern Conference Media Days this week was it was disappointed with the way last season went and want to do something about it.

It wasn't bad for the Bulldogs last year. They finished with seven wins, including a victory over Wake Forest in the Music City Bowl.

Harris becomes 12th Bulldog commitment

Mississippi State picked up its 12th football commitment to the class of 2013 Saturday when McAdory, Ala. athlete Dezmond Harris committed to coach Dan Mullen.

“I am just relieved to be a Bulldog,” said Harris.  “I am very happy and so was my family. The coaches welcomed me to the family and were very happy. I wanted to be a Bulldog.”

Ms. Rona Elizabeth Stallings Coleman, 94, died Friday, July 20, 2012 at Vickers Personal Care Home in Starkville.

She was a retired homemaker and was reared in Maben. Her hobbies included cooking, quilting and serving the church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at Friendship Baptist Church of Sturgis. Rev. Halton Davis Jr. and Tim Buchanan will officiate.
