A 7 a.m. football practice is something some high school students don't tackle with a lot of enthusiasm.
For the Starkville Academy football players, Monday's first football practice of the year was something they were anticipating.
The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have an experienced soccer team coming back this season.
Starkville Academy soccer coach Robert Gardner has eight of 11 starters returning which helps in the chemistry of what's happening on the field and he likes the way preseason workouts have been going.
Starkville Academy was hoping for a good start to the season to give its young players a confidence boost.
The Lady Volunteers schedule didn't help and SA fell to the Oak Hill Lady Raiders 18-0 Monday afternoon at Lady Volunteer Field in the first fastpitch softball game of the season.
SA came back to win the junior varsity game 8-4 in the nightcap.

Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012 at Porter Loring Chapel in San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation will be held 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at Porter Loring.

Mr. Kinard was born Nov. 11, 1927 in Starkville.
Mr. Leon Usco Shook, 70, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home.
Graveside services will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Sturgis.
Visitation will be held 1 p.m Saturday before the service at Welch Funeral Home.

Geoffrey Walkup Guyton, lifelong resident of Starkville, died Friday, July 27, 2012 following an illness at his home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at First Baptist Church Chapel in Starkville.

Mrs. Doris Dell Kernodle Hudnall of Alexander City, Ala., 83, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Chapman Healthcare Center.Â
Graveside services for Mrs. Hudnall were held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Fairview Cemetery Addition in Eufaula, Ala. Dr. Jason Rodgers officiated.Â
The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Radney Funeral Home.
Ms. Annie Jenkins, 74, died Sunday, July 22, 2012, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Blackjack M.B. Church with Rev. Robert Branson officiating.
Burial will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 1-7 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at West Memorial Funeral Home.
