The Mississippi State Rating Bureau recently evaluated Starkville’s fire, water and emergency services as well as the city’s building codes and enforcement in order to determine whether or not the city’s fire insurance rating can improve from a Class 5 to a Class 4.

Mr. Herbert Lamar Kinard, 84, died Saturday, July 28, 2012.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012 at Porter Loring Chapel in San Antonio, Texas.
Visitation will be held 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at Porter Loring.
Porter Loring Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kinard was born Nov. 11, 1927 in Starkville.
Mr. Leon Usco Shook, 70, died Thursday, July 26, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home.
Graveside services will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Sturgis.
Visitation will be held 1 p.m Saturday before the service at Welch Funeral Home.
Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
