The Starkville Board of Aldermen unanimously approved to hire Taylor Adams as the city’s new director of finance at its meeting Tuesday night.
Adams’ first day on the job will be Aug. 1. His salary will be $73,500.

Mississippi State University officials reported Tuesday that the MSU Foundation raised $86.4 million during the 2012 fiscal year, breaking the previous year’s record of $80.3 million by more than $6 million.

Though school is still out for summer, more than three dozen local children are in session for a different kind of class.
Former East Webster football player Johnthan Banks is accustomed to being the center of attention on the football field.
In high school, Banks was the best athlete on the field most Friday nights. At Mississippi State, he’s one of the most gifted defensive backs in the nation.
His prowess on the field has landed him on a variety of preseason watch lists and deservingly so.
