If any company in Starkville demonstrated the ebb and flow of the economy in 2012, SemiSouth Laboratories did.
In March, SemiSouth announced plans to invest $18 million in new equipment and create 100 new jobs in Starkville. Seven months later, SemiSouth closed its doors, displacing approximately 90 workers.

The city of Starkville recently received a two-year, $13,500 grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality to defray solid waste code enforcement.
When many people look at the Mississippi State secondary, they see Johnthan Banks.
The senior has stood out in the secondary and he was awarded the Jim Thorpe Award for the nation's best defensive back.
There is another senior cornerback for the Bulldogs who has more interceptions than Banks for the Bulldogs this season.

SENATOBIA â€“ The Starkville Academy Volunteers started and finished strong in defeating North Delta Academy 55-35 at the Magnolia Heights Tournament on Thursday.
Starkville Academy, which ended a two-game losing streak and improved its record to 6-8, established a 12-3 lead after the first quarter.

Burial will follow in Public Cemetery in Starkville.
Visitation will be held 12:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Century-Hairston Funeral Home in Starkville.
Mrs. Mary Montez Reece, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at Starkville Manor Nursing Home in Starkville.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman with Doug Atkinson officiating.
Burial will follow at South Union Methodist Cemetery near Ackerman.
Mrs. Mary Frances Watt, 56, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at Oddfellows Cemetery on Hwy 182 in Starkville with Minister Maggie Little officiating.
Burial will follow services.
Mrs. Louise Mitchell Whitehead, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.Â
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at Welch Memorial Funeral Home in Starkville with Rev. Bob Whiteside officiating.
Burial will follows in Oddfellows Cemetery.
