After beginning the year with a 1-3 record, the Jackets were not going to look back.

Starkville's focus was moving forward and concentrating on the Class 5A, Region 2 schedule.

Maben Fire Department Chief Justin Collins resigned Tuesday, citing personnel issues, according to sources.
Oktibbeha County Fire Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said his departure is strictly an internal situation and a personnel matter.

Batiste challenges death sentence before Miss. Supreme Court

The attorney for Bobby Batiste, who was sentenced to death in 2009 for capital murder in the death of Andreas Galanis, argued to the Mississippi Supreme Court today that prosecutors were unsuccessful in proving Batiste robbed his victim, which is necessary for an Oktibbeha County jury to convict him of that count.

Bulldogs able to win 'ugly game'

Mississippi State head basketball coach Rick Ray has come to the conclusion that his team is going to have to win some "ugly basketball games."

The Bulldogs did exactly that Tuesday night.

MSU beat the University of Texas-San Antonio 53-42 inside Humphrey Coliseum.

SA teams pick up wins on the road

PELAHATCHIE – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have reached the 10-win mark already this season after defeating East Rankin Academy on the road 59-37 on Tuesday night.

Starkville Academy jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter and kept that 11-point lead at halftime 29-18.

Cougars win pair at home

The Grace Christian School Eagles had a difficult time trying to figure out Starkville Christian's 'Riddle' Tuesday night.

Chris Riddle scored a game-high 19 points as the homestanding Cougars defeated the Eagles 66-25.
After getting 12 points by halftime, Riddle added seven more in the second half, including a successful 3-pointer to end the third quarter that put SCS up 54-20.

SSD denies 1 OCSD transfer, grants another

The Starkville School District Board of Directors denied one parent’s request for her children to transfer from the Oktibbeha County School District to the SSD, but it accepted the same request from Orlando Trainer, because he has become an SSD employee.

Aldermen approve MDOT drainage fix after deliberation
