Morning fire engulfs attic of Jackson Street house

No injuries were reported after the attic of a house on 511 Jackson Street caught fire Wednesday morning, but the structure has been declared a loss, Starkville Fire Department officials said.

Fire Marshal Stein McMullen said SFD responded to a call at 9:27 a.m. to find the upper portion of the building in flames.

No rest for Mitchell at All-Star Classic: SHS coach working with Mississippi offense

Not so for Starkville High School's Jamie Mitchell.

Mitchell went right back to work as he has the responsibility of being the offensive coordinator for Mississippi in Saturday's Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Classic. The 26th annual edition kicks off at noon in Montgomery, Ala.

Eupora's Jones excited to be among state's best

Derrick Jones’ career as a high school wide receiver with the Eupora Eagles may be winding down, but the senior does have one last game left before he hangs up his prep cleats.

On Saturday, Jones will suit up alongside some of Mississippi’s best, including eight Dandy Dozen selections, for the 26th Mississippi-Alabama all-star game in Montgomery, Ala.

Bulldogs go inside Palmeiro for Wednesday workout

The first day of Mississippi State bowl practice open to the public, wasn't so open.

The Bulldogs took the show inside the Palmeiro Center and no fans were permitted inside. The media was allowed to watch.

MSU head coach Dan Mullen and safeties coach Tony Hughes were not in attendance. Instead, they were on the road recruiting.

UPDATE: Major damage in Jackson Street house fire

Starkville Fire Department officials have not identified a cause of a house fire this morning on 511 Jackson St. but have confirmed the structure sustained major damage, mostly to its roof.

Fire Marshal Stein McMullen said SFD responded to a house fire call at approximately 9:30 a.m.
