3 nominations still unknown for LINK board

Three nominations remain to be announced for a board charged with representing Oktibbeha County in tri-county economic development initiatives.

Last week, the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors nominated Zelma Talley, a retired businessperson, to serve on a four-person board which will be comprised of local representatives.

BACK TO JACKSON: Jackets go through Wave once again to reach State

It seems that history is repeating itself.

Last year the Starkville High School football team lost to West Point in the regular season, but beat them in the playoffs on route to Jackson.
SHS lost to West Point 47-22 on Sept. 7.

The Yellowjackets followed history and beat the Green Wave 29-28 in an overtime thriller to win the Class 5A North State title at Yellowjacket Stadium.

Not long after losing the Class 5A State championship to Picayune last December, the SHS program was hit with the tragedy of Devin Mitchell's death.

EUPORA – It was a thrilling way to win a North State championship for the Eupora Eagles.

In a back and forth game, the Eagles defeated the Bruce Trojans 31-28 to claim the Class 2A North Half title and advanced to the State championship game.

Public performance set for SHS Drama Festival Show

Starkville High School is once again preparing to showcase its many talents as the theatre department readies its latest Drama Festival show, “The Insanity of Mary Girard.”

A public performance is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Starkville High School auditorium. Tickets are $5.

First-year drama teacher Jessica Taylor said preparation for the show began in the summer.

MSU sorority planning may switch course

Two lots near Mississippi State University’s sororities, its Clay Lyle Entomology Lab and Bully Boulevard may become sites for new sorority development, pending sorority representatives’ decisions.

The sororities have asked MSU about starting construction at these locations to Sorority Row’s north in lieu of previously planned locations to its south on an incomplete circular drive.

Area Salvation Army begins Red Kettle Campaign Friday

The charitable sound of bells ringing are once again filling the Starkville air as the Starkville Salvation Army begins its 2012 Red Kettle Campaign 9 a.m. today at Kroger.

Campaign coordinator Debra Austin said volunteers will ring bells outside of Kroger and Walmart today through Christmas Eve for this year’s Christmas campaign.
