Mrs. Mary Allene Hudson Smith, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at the OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at the United Funeral Service Chapel.
Burial will follow in Glenfield Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at the funeral home.

Matthew Ford

Mr. Matthew James Ford, 26, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 in Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Provence officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at Lehrton Cemetery in Ruleville.

Alma Bennett

November 5, 2012

Dr. Alma Bennett, 71, died Oct. 18, 2012 in Anderson, S.C.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at the Mizpah Cemetery in Durant with the Rev. Joseph Sherrard officiating.
A memorial service also has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 in the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts at Clemson University.

Arthur Sisk

Mr. Arthur Milton Sisk, 77, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. 

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Mathiston with Rev. Wade Stevens officiating.
Burial will follow in the Spring Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Mathiston.

PASS CHRISTIAN — Justice W. Joel Blass, 95, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012 in Pass Christian.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Long Beach.
Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Pass Christian.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at the church.

Mrs. Pearlie Warren, 64, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 in Tupelo.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012 at St. Matthew M.B. Church with Rev. Nathaniel Best officiating.
Burial will follow at Lawrence Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 1-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at West Memorial Funeral Home.

Starkville Community Theatre continues its season with the premiere of “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks” Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Directed by M.J. Etua, “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks” was written by Richard Alfieri and stars veteran SCT actors Lyle Tate and Marsha Williams.

Heavy traffic expected at county polls

County election commissioners say Tuesday’s General Election voters should exercise patience and drive carefully to the polls as heavy traffic is expected in areas near voting precincts.

Polls open 7 a.m. tomorrow and close at 7 p.m.

'That's on me': Mullen accepts responsibility for MSU's 38-13 loss to A&M

Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen was still accepting blame on Sunday afternoon.

After Saturday's 38-13 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, there could have been quite a bit of finger-pointing going on.

Mullen continued to insist during his Sunday teleconference that the reason for the problems ultimately rest on his shoulders.

Lady Jackets finish second in state swim meet

CLEVELAND – The Starkville High School girls swim team benefitted from the state championship efforts of the girls 200 freestyle relay team and claimed second place overall in Class II at the State Championship meet on Saturday.

Class II is comprised of all Class 5A and 6A schools so the Lady Jackets defeated all 5A schools, while Tupelo was the only 6A school that finished higher.
