The extra Myles: SHS senior quarterback gets team back to state

November 28, 2012

The Starkville Yellowjackets have gotten used to quarterback Gabe Myles giving every ounce of effort to the offense the last two seasons.

There was no better example of that than when he scored the game-winning two-point conversion last Friday night to help Starkville defeat the West Point Green Wave 29-28 in overtime to claim the Class 5A North State championship.

November 28, 2012

By ALIX HUI

Many years ago — shoot, nearly 10 — my brother and I woke on Thanksgiving morning to the clucking of chickens and, strangely, the chortle of a turkey. The beach roaches scattered onto the sand (“beach roaches” makes them sound more happy-go-lucky and hapless than when you see one perched on your toothbrush) as we stumbled out of our bamboo hut to the front porch.
