SCT actors share dances, emotions in newest play

Starkville Community Theatre continues its season with the premiere of “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks” Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Directed by M.J. Etua, “Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks” was written by Richard Alfieri and stars veteran SCT actors Lyle Tate and Marsha Williams.

Heavy traffic expected at county polls

County election commissioners say Tuesday’s General Election voters should exercise patience and drive carefully to the polls as heavy traffic is expected in areas near voting precincts.

Polls open 7 a.m. tomorrow and close at 7 p.m.

'That's on me': Mullen accepts responsibility for MSU's 38-13 loss to A&M

Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen was still accepting blame on Sunday afternoon.

After Saturday's 38-13 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, there could have been quite a bit of finger-pointing going on.

Mullen continued to insist during his Sunday teleconference that the reason for the problems ultimately rest on his shoulders.

Lady Jackets finish second in state swim meet

CLEVELAND – The Starkville High School girls swim team benefitted from the state championship efforts of the girls 200 freestyle relay team and claimed second place overall in Class II at the State Championship meet on Saturday.

Class II is comprised of all Class 5A and 6A schools so the Lady Jackets defeated all 5A schools, while Tupelo was the only 6A school that finished higher.

MSU wins exhibition basketball game

It wasn't what Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray wanted, but at least it was a win.

Mississippi State held off William Carey 80-74 Sunday afternoon at Humphrey Coliseum in an exhibition game.

Election results flashed on big screen at election party

The Starkville News election results flashed on a large screen mounted high on the side of Puller’s Drug Store in no way compared to The New York Times Building in Times Square whose famous electric news ticker display was first used to announce the results of the United States presidential election of 1928.

A couple of years ago, I wrote about a new plant I found for the fall landscape called golden thryallis. We planted some in our landscape at Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, and I have it growing in a large container at my house.
