As leaders raise questions about the future of county education, local economic developers say the current situation casts doubt over one of the main quality-of-life issues companies examine when relocating.
Weak school systems, they say, create an under-developed workforce, which then limits what kinds of jobs Oktibbeha County can attract.

An official 2012 presidential election summary shows 7,171 outlying Oktibbeha County voters cast their ballots on Nov. 6, while 10,945 city voters went to the polls.
Counting absentee and affidavit ballots, Oktibbeha County as a whole experienced a voter turnout of 18,284. That is 68.85 percent of the county’s 26,557 registered voters.

The Greater Starkville Development Partnership is ushering in the holiday season with its Christmas Open House in downtown Starkville from noon to 5 p.m today.
Jennifer Gregory, GSDP chief operating officer and vice president of tourism development, said the communitywide event has become a definitive holiday tradition for Starkville.
