The Starkville Board of Adjustments and Appeals rejected a variance for a Plantation Homes resident to build a carport closer to the property line than city law normally allows amid significant public presence at its meeting Wednesday.

Members of the Starkville Historic Preservation Commission reported positive results from prior meetings with residents and other stakeholders in historic neighborhoods at their meeting Tuesday.
Mississippi State and Alabama meet this Saturday in Tuscaloosa in a game that has implications on the Southeastern Conference Western Division and the national championship picture.
For the No. 13 (Associated Press) Bulldogs (7-0, 3-0) to be successful establishing the ground game against the No. 1 Crimson Tide (7-0, 4-0) will be a big key.
It's been a building process since Dan Mullen became the head football coach at Mississippi State.
Quarterback Tyler Russell has helped in that construction.

The Starkville Academy Volunteers will have their hands full when they face Presbyterian Christian School Friday night at 7 p.m.
PCS has put on an offensive show this season, averaging just shy of 35 points per game.
Bailey Williams will trade in her East Webster softball uniform for a new one. The senior was recently selected to participate in Saturday's Mississippi Slow Pitch All-Star game.
The senior for the Lady Wolverines glowed with excitement when thinking about being included on the All-Star roster.

Thomas Brooks has made tackle after tackle after tackle for the East Webster Wolverines the last two years.
With a total of nearly 200 tackles during that span, Brooks has served notice that he's going to be around the football most of the time.
