Ridgeland has dangerous threats

The Ridgeland Titans have many options in the playbook and with personnel.

After playing the power I offense that Provine presented last week, the Starkville Yellowjackets know they have to be ready for anythng when the Titans come to down for Class 5A, Regin 2, District 6 action on Friday. Kickoff for the first October game is set for 7 p.m.

MSU women have first basketball practice under Schaefer

Mississippi State women's basketball coach Vic Schaefer put his team through a four-hour workout to begin preseason practice Wednesday.

Even though the practice was long, it was just a hint of what the Lady Bulldogs can expect as they train for the season under the new head coach.

MSU sophomore Kendra Grant admitted the practice was tough, but something the players needed.

Wallace Gray Jr., 83, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at his home. 

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Brooksville Baptist Church with Brother Clifton Curtis and Brother Jay Spiller officiating.
Burial followed by Brooksville Cemetery.
Visitation was held 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Brooksville Baptist Church.

Drexel Heath

Drexel Randolph Heath, 86, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was owner of Heath Oil Co. and a Navy veteran.

Carlton Carpenter Jr.

October 3, 2012

Dr. Carlton Lanier Carpenter Jr., 82, a native of Starkville and resident of Baton Rouge, La., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church.
A private burial followed at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Visitation was held 9-11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Trinity Episcopal Church.

William Pope Sr.

October 3, 2012

William Joiner Pope Sr., 81, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at OCH Regional Medical Center. 

A full military graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Center Grove Cemetery with Rev. Joel Hudson officiating.
Visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012 at Center Grove Baptist Church.
Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.

Clifford Gustin

October 3, 2012

Mr. Clifford Eugene Gustin, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 in Starkville.

A memorial celebrating his life will be held in Starkville at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2012.

He was born in Smith Center, Kan. and migrated to California at age six where he grew up and graduated from Manteca High in 1949.

Paul Jacob

Mr. Paul B. Jacob, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012  in Meridian.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at First Baptist Church in Starkville with Rev. Clifton Curtis officiating.
Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 preceding the service.
Welch Funeral Home in Starkville is in charge of arrangements.

Troy Gene Kight of Baindrige, Ga., 84, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Woodrum and Mr. Charles Whittaker officiating.
The graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012 at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, Tenn.

EUPORA — Mrs. Ruthie Lee Robinson, 98, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at Mount Union Missionary Baptist Church in Eupora.
Burial will follow in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Choctaw County.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at Roberts and Sons Mortuary.
