Clash with Titans: Starkville understands importance of home game against Ridgeland

The Starkville Yellowjackets want to win their second-straight Class 5A, Region 2, District 6 championship this season.

Once again, the Ridgeland Titans are standing in Starkville's way.
The Jackets know a victory over the Titans in tonight's 7 p.m. meeting at Yellowjacket Stadium will go a long way in helping them achieve their goals.

Possibilities excite Volunteers on football field

The Starkville Academy Volunteers got to see firsthand a deep run into the playoffs last season.

SA coach Jeff Terrill and the Volunteers know what the excitement can bring and are hoping it happens again this season.

Timberwolves take football division opponent seriously

West Oktibbeha has put itself in a pretty spot for the playoffs, but that doesn't mean they have let their guard down.

The Timberwolves (5-1, 3-0) are not overlooking Class A, Region 3, District 4 foe Ethel (2-5, 0-4).

West Oktibbeha and Ethel are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff for Ethel's homecoming.

Junior Vols win at home

The Starkville Academy Volunteers spent a great amount of emotion last week.

Keeping the focus was coach Chad Peterson's number one priority.

"We preached to them," Peterson said. "They showed up every day to practice and we had a great week of practice. (We) came out focused (Thursday)."

It showed in the Volunteers 28-6 victory over Parklane Academy at J.E. Logan Field.

Powerhouse League enjoys good first year

There are several little powerhouse teams that's making the Powerhouse Football League a success in its first season of existence.

Fred Tate, Powerhouse board member and spokesman for the league, is happy with the way the season is progressing to this point and especially with the success of the Starkville teams.

This is elimination day for the Major League Baseball playoffs.

Not only will the season come to an end for either the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers or Baltimore Orioles, there will be individuals with ties to Mississippi State baseball that will be going home for the winter.
