SCOOBA – The East Mississippi Community College defense deserved a round of applause, and head coach Buddy Stephens made sure that happened.

"Defense got the game ball," Stephens said. "We made the offense stand up and give a standing ovation because (the defense) did a great job."

There's nothing like a big play between two former Starkville Yellowjackets to give the East Mississippi Community College Lions the spark they needed on offense Saturday afternoon.

When quarterback Jaquez Johnson found Billy Shed for a 46-yard completion late in the third quarter, it set up the Lions for their first touchdown of the game.

Early wakeup call made to Bulldogs, Wildcats for game

The unbeaten Mississippi State Bulldogs carry a national ranking of No. 20 to Lexington, Ky., today facing their first Southeastern Conference road test of the season with the Kentucky Wildcats.

Kickoff is set for 11:21 a.m. for the SEC Network telecast that can be seen locally on WCBI.

EMCC hosts Holmes for homecoming

Undefeated and undeterred are the No. 5 ranked East Mississippi Community College Lions.

At 5-0 overall and 2-0 overall, the Lions host Holmes Community College this afternoon in Scooba.

Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and homecoming festivities will abound on the EMCC campus as the defending national champions look to chase down another title.

Jackets top Titans 23-0 at home

Defense wins championships, or so the saying goes.

On Friday night, the Yellowjacket defense played with tenacity shutting out the Ridgeland Titians in a 23-0 Class 5A, Region 2 win.

SA defeated by Parklane 35-12 on road

MCCOMB – It wasn't the type of night on the road the Starkville Academy Volunteers wanted to have during a 35-12 loss to Parklane Academy on Friday.

Parklane jumped out to a 14-3 halftime advantage and never took its foot off the gas pedal as it generated 401 yards of total offense against SA.

East Oktibbeha loses to Noxapater

CRAWFORD – The East Oktibbeha Titans were hoping to match their last home victory over Ethel with another one on Friday night.

It didn't take the Titans long to find out that was going to be a difficult task.

The defending Class A State Champion Noxapater Tigers visited East Oktibbeha looking for their sixth-straight victory and left with that in hand after the 48-6 result.
