DOJ wants more info on voter law

JACKSON (AP) — Attorney General Jim Hood says the Department of Justice has asked for more information on Mississippi’s voter identification law.

Hood said in a statement Tuesday that the bottom line is that the law will not be pre-cleared by the Justice Department in time for it to be enforced for the Nov. 6 election.

Jackets getting defensive: SHS unit has not allowed offensive points in last two games

Prior to the opening of Class 5A, Region 2, District 6 play for the Starkville Yellowjackets, it was the desire of defensive coordinator Brooks Oakley to see his unit play more like it did toward the end of last season.

It was the effort of the defense that contributed to Starkville's run all of the way to the Class 5A State Championship game in 2011.

Seniors contribute to success for SHS volleyball

For one group of seniors at Starkville High School, they waited a long time to have their night in the lights.

Michaela Mills, Jamiyah Covington and Stacie Young are the only three seniors on the SHS volleyball team, and they played their last regular season match in the Beehive on Tuesday night.
