Second place is not enough for Shawn Sullivan or the Starkville High School band he directs.
Sullivan said the SHS band placed second in both 2011 and 2010 at the Chunky River Marching Classic at East Central Community College. He said the SHS band has never won the contest outright until this month.
The Oktibbeha County Circuit Court finished its second week of the fall term Friday and begins the third and final week today.
The following cases were resolved last week:
April Bumgardner’s post-release supervision was revoked on a count of possession of methamphetamine precursors. Bumgardner was sentenced to five years in prison.
Members of the Oktibbeha County Economic Development Agency and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Executive Council are expected to execute a recently amended interim agreement for regional economic development at a 5:30 p.m. meeting today at the GSDP building.
Mississippi State has not had to respond to failure all year long.
This coming week the No. 17 (Associated Press) Bulldogs (7-1, 3-1) have to overcome their first loss of the season.
MSU fell 38-7 to No. 1 Alabama Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. This week things don't get much easier with No. 16 (Associated Press) Texas A&M (6-2, 3-2) heading to Starkville for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
Jessy Ward believes she can provide a nice shooting touch for the Mississippi State women's basketball team.
Coach Vic Schaefer believes she can also.
Ward made four out of six shots from 3-point range and had 20 points for both teams combined during Saturday's Maroon-White Scrimmage at Humphrey Coliseum. She was one of the encouraging signs for Schaefer.

The Mississippi Center for Public Policy named West Oktibbeha County Elementary School as an Exceed School on Oct. 18 for its strong academic performance amid a high poverty rate.
