It’s been a good year for family weddings. In the summer, we traveled to Texas to see the first of the first cousins once removed (I checked the chart) on Daddy’s side get hitched. This weekend we went eastward to Macon, Ga., to see a chapter close, as the final first cousin on Mama’s branch (not removed at all) tied the knot.

Mississippi State University will highlight the creative art of poetry Wednesday as the English department welcomes Sandra Beasley, a critically praised and nationally recognized poet, at 4:30 p.m. in the Fowlkes Auditorium in the Colvard Student Union.

Edwards joins SDN sports staff

The Starkville Daily News has hired Starkville native Jason Edwards as part of its sports staff.

Edwards gained a Masters degree of Science in Sports Administration from Mississippi State University in August and received a bachelor degree of Science in Sports Communication from Mississippi State University in May 2010.

Determined Baker gives SHS a boost

Preston Baker had come to the conclusion that his senior year at Starkville High School was over when he was laying on the field with an injury during the West Point game on Sept. 7.

After all, he was taken off the field and his leg was put in an air cast.
"I thought my ankle was broken and I was going to finish my senior year on the sideline," Baker said.
